The Halfords web site

The Halfords.com website currently ranges over 7,500 easily accessible products, ranging from Sat Nav, In Car Technology, Bikes, Baby & Child, Outdoor Leisure, Car Maintenance and Car Styling, the site also offers helpful advice and hints to help you to choose the right product for you. Our unique aftercare service is also available on selected products bought online, including fitting services for car audio and child seats, free set up and demo for Sat Nav, bike checks and more.

Halfords offer next day delivery on orders placed before 10am or customers can choose to have goods delivered on a day of their choice.

The Halfords site…ok, on first impressions it’s woah! there’s so much going on, hectic header graphic, moving bits, flashing bits, different fonts and graphics covering the screen – where do I look, what am I supposed to do next!

If you haven’t already guessed it, I’m describing the call-to-action…as in there isn’t one, or at least it isn’t terribly well defined. Halfords clearly offer a huge range of vehicle accessories and presenting them clearly is a challenge. On a positive note the flyout menus all work smoothly without issue, and once you’ve navigated beyond the Halfords home page the products listings are well laid out and not jumbled.

Buying process is simple; you can even leave comments (brave)

Car Insurance web site – Insurance Choice

Social Business and Pleasure Car Insurance

Find a Car Insurance Broker

Insurance Choice is a non-advisory broker. Ok, What this means is, car Insurance Choice are able to contact numerous insurers to obtain the best quote and cover for you, the customer. This is mostly an automated procedure, but in some instances bespoke solutions are required, such as medical conditions when applying for travel insurance. This is where Insurance Choice makes the difference as this is their speciality, along with other non-standard products.

Oh dear! What an awful looking web site!
Not sure what the designers or Insurance Choice were thinking here, the ‘bold’ font weighting on mouse over on hyperlinks or particulary annoying and the colours and fonts just naff looking. A very dated looking site, although to be fair I don’t know how old the site is..but being Insurance brokers you’d have thougth they’d have invested a bit of money into their site? Everyone needs insurance after all, it is recession proof!

The Get A Quote system is ok but stretches to too many screens (6), again something I’d look to strip right down if I was re-organising this site – the fewer the clicks the better right!?

Probably worth getting a quote as there is a lot of dross on other ‘comparision’ sites (I think my insurer is based in Gibralter, which doesn’t inspire confidence but hey, they were cheap)

Booking Car Servicing Online

Can I get my car serviced online?

Looking to book your car in for a service with an online national servicing outfit?, Try NSN – National Car Service Network, they have a network of over 1,000 garages covering over 90% of the UK population.

NSN specialise in vehicle servicing, MOT testing and mechanical repairs for all makes and models of car.

NSN appear to be extremely competitive on price and claim they are on average 30% cheaper than main dealers.

NSN also offer customers a FREE collection & delivery service and FREE wash & vac, on all bookings over £75. All work is covered with a 12 month / 12,000 mile national guarantee.

The NSN web site is tidy looking fast to load and clear to understand in punchy paragraphs. There isn’t too much content to read is flashy images either. Make sure you read the T&Cs though; the link is hidden away in the footer area marked with an asterix.

The really clever bit is the booking process – the National Car Servicing web site searches on your car registration and return the make and model, plus costings for an MOT, interim and full car service, with additional up-sells. Seemed a bit pricey to me but you pays your money and makes your choice?
